Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by patting the cod fillets dry and season them with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Cajun seasoning. Chop the shallot and mince the garlic, and prepare the parsley and asparagus.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil and butter. Sear the cod fillets for about 3 minutes until golden-brown, then flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Lower the heat and add the remaining butter, minced garlic, and chopped shallot to the skillet. Sauté for 2 minutes, then add smoked paprika, chili flakes, and sage. Deglaze with chicken broth and bring to a boil.
  4. Mix in the remaining butter until melted, then add asparagus and parsley. Cook for 3 minutes until asparagus is bright and tender.
  5. Return the cod to the skillet, spoon sauce over, and simmer for 3 minutes. Finish with lemon juice and garnish with parsley and black pepper.
