  • 8-12 slices thick-cut bacon
For the Glaze
  • 1/4 cup butter salted or unsalted
  • 1 cup brown sugar light or dark depending on preference
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low-sodium recommended
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or fresh minced garlic
  • to taste black pepper

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • large skillet
  • pot

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. If using canned green beans, drain them. For fresh beans, blanch them for 3-4 minutes in boiling salted water, then transfer to ice water.
  3. Cook the chopped bacon in a skillet over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until crispy. Remove bacon and reserve 1 tablespoon of grease.
  4. In the same skillet, mix melted butter, brown sugar, soy sauce, and garlic powder over low heat until smooth to make the glaze.
  5. Layer the green beans in the baking dish, pour the glaze over them, and top with crispy bacon, pressing it into the glaze.
  6. Bake uncovered for 30-40 minutes until bubbly and caramelized. Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.
