Step-by-Step Instructions for Green Bean Casserole
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and blanch the fresh green beans for about 5 minutes.
  3. Drain the green beans and plunge them into a bowl of ice water.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper until smooth.
  5. Fold the blanched green beans into the creamy sauce mixture.
  6. Gently mix in half of the French fried onions into the mixture.
  7. Spray a baking dish with cooking spray and spread the green bean mixture evenly in the dish.
  8. Bake the casserole for about 25 minutes until bubbling.
  9. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the remaining French fried onions on top.
  10. Bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crispy.
