Step-by-Step Instructions for French Onion Burgers
  1. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions and sauté for about 15-20 minutes until they turn a deep golden brown.
  2. Pour in ½ cup of beef broth, stir to combine, and let it simmer for another 10-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. In a blender, combine 1 clove of garlic and 1 egg. Blend until frothy and gradually stream in ½ cup of olive oil while blending until creamy.
  4. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Mix ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Form into patties.
  5. Grill patties for about 5 minutes each side. For the last minute, top each patty with caramelized onions and Gruyère cheese to melt.
  6. Spread garlic sauce on the bottom half of each bun, place grilled patties with melted cheese on top, and add arugula before topping with the bun.
