Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. Melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter and heat 1 cup of milk to 100-110°F. Combine milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add 1 beaten egg, ½ teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon vanilla to the foamy yeast mixture. Gradually mix in 2.5 to 3 cups of flour until a soft dough forms. Cover and proof for 10 minutes.
Filling Preparation
  1. Mix ¼ cup softened butter, ½ cup light brown sugar, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, and an additional splash of vanilla until smooth.
Rolling and Cutting
  1. Roll the proofed dough into a large rectangle (14"x18", ¼ inch thick). Spread the filling evenly across the dough.
  2. Tightly roll the dough from one edge, slice into 12 equal pieces, and place in a greased baking pan.
Baking
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Let rolls rise for 10 minutes, then bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Icing Preparation
  1. Beat together 4 ounces of cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, and 2 tablespoons milk until smooth.
Serving
  1. Spread cream cheese icing over warm rolls after cooling for 10 minutes.
