  • 4-6 apples firm apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons butter or coconut oil for lighter option
For the Sweet Sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar or substitute with white sugar or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon optional: nutmeg or ginger
For Thickening (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mix with 1 tablespoon water

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Begin by peeling and slicing 4 to 6 firm apples into even wedges.
  2. Preheat a well-seasoned cast-iron skillet over medium heat for about 2 minutes.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the hot skillet and add 1/2 cup of brown sugar, stirring until smooth.
  4. Carefully add the prepared apple slices to the skillet, stirring gently.
  5. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cinnamon over the apples and stir to combine.
  6. Continue cooking the apples for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until tender and golden brown.
  7. If desired, mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and add it to the skillet in the last 2 minutes.
  8. For an adult twist, add a splash of bourbon at the end and let it simmer for 1 to 2 minutes.
